Welcome to Bristol Child Psychology Practice. We are a group of Clinical Psychologists based around the Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset area who specialise in working with children, teenagers and families. We offer psychological assessment and therapy to children and young people between the ages of 0 and 25 years. We also offer supervision, training and consultation to other professionals.

If you have a child who is struggling with their emotions or behaviours, Bristol Child Psychology Practice is here to help. Many children and young people struggle with their emotions and behaviours at some point in their childhood, and this is understandably distressing for both the child and their families. Clinical Psychologists are highly trained clinicians who offer assessments and therapy to help and support children, young people and their families to overcome their difficulties. All the Clinical Psychologists with the Bristol Child Psychology Practice have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and have extensive experience of working in the NHS.

We are also trained to help with neurodevelopmental difficulties including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autistic Spectrum Conditions and Tourette’s Syndrome.

How we work

We will first offer an assessment appointment where we will listen to your child and family’s difficulties. We will then explore with you what further support we recommend. This may include one or more of the following:

One to one therapy for the child or teenager

Appointments with the parents or carers only

       Appointments with the whole family

Therapies can include:

       Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

       Family based therapy

       Parenting work

       Narrative therapy

       Solution focused therapy

       Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Clinical psychologists use the NICE guidance (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) to inform their clinical practice.

We understand that coming to see a Clinical Psychologist can be daunting and can take courage but the Clinical Psychologists at Bristol Child Psychology Practice are highly skilled at working alongside children and families. Confidentiality, respect and sensitivity underpin all of our work.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer an emergency service or crisis appointments and in that instance, we would recommend you arrange an urgent appointment with your child’s GP.
